The review
Is it actually worth it?
The 1" Sony IMX183 sensor is the headline spec: at that size, the camera can document roughly the same field of view seen live through a 10×/22 mm eyepiece, rather than a cropped slice of it. Focus stacking in the bundled MikroCam Lab II software also helps with the shallow depth of field that's a constant fight at high magnification.
It doubles as a free-standing camera via the standard tripod thread, useful for documenting gross specimens outside the microscope too.
Pros
- Large 1" sensor captures a wider true field of view
- Focus stacking built into the bundled software
- Doubles as a standalone camera via tripod mount
Cons
- Frame rate drops sharply at full resolution
- Needs a fairly capable computer for smooth live view
Ideal for: Documenting full microscope fields accurately, including for focus-stacked composite images of uneven specimens.
